NHS local Learning, the online service that provides training and educational resources for NHS staff in the West Midlands, has been renamed HEWM Learning and has been given Health Education West Midlands branding and a bold new design.
As a result of this name change, the web addresses of NHS local Learning and Education resources will be changing. NHS local Learning will now be found at learning.wm.hee.nhs.uk, and NHS local Professional Learning Environment will be found at education.wm.hee.nhs.uk.
Individuals will still be able to log in with existing accounts, and any course progress will be saved in the learning management system. If this is not the case, users are advised to contact the new HEWM Learning helpdesk.
The move comes following a change in the ownership of NHS local Learning, which was originally commissioned in 2010 by the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority, and delivered by a consortium led by Maverick Television.
When the strategic health authorities were shut down in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2012, NHS local learning came under the ownership of Health Education West Midlands (HEWM), the body responsible for the education and training of health and public health workers in the region. HEWM operates as a local education and training board (LETB) of Health Education England.
HEWM Learning, as a service, is now delivered by the digital healthcare company, Digital Life Sciences, which was established by Maverick television and its consortium partners Clever Together and Illumina Digital.
Digital Life Sciences will continue to ensure that a high-quality service is maintained for healthcare workers in the West Midlands, and that there is no disruption to the range of courses delivered, including the upcoming 2014 Doctors in Training Online Generic Induction (DITOGI) course.
